It’s Fall “4″ Math Time!

DAEG is again co-sponsoring a program with the elementary schools called Fall “4″ Math to demonstrate how much fun math can be! Students are encouraged to play math games at home with their parents, siblings and friends for two weeks – October 17th – October 28th. These games will focus on developing logical thinking, spatial reasoning, critical problem solving, and even math fact skills! DAEG will supply the incentives; the schools will supply the games on a website; and all you have to supply is the time and possibly a set of dice, a deck of cards and some coins.

Students will complete a “Play Log”, similar to a reading log, of time they spend playing math games. You can log onto the Darien School website at http://www.darienps.org/mathmadness/ to find the grade-appropriate links and games developed by the district or you can access it from our class website as the class has learned to do in computer lab. Also included is a list of board games that you may already own that have more math in them than you think. Simply follow the directions for the game, complete the Play Log and have fun!

Please have your child return their Play Logs to school on Monday, October 24th and Monday, October 31st. DAEG will collect the Play Logs and tally the results each week. At the end of the two week play period, the class in each grade at your school with the highest total percentage of participation will win a prize!

Field Trip: Noroton Heights Fire Department

The whole second grade will be visiting the Noroton Heights Fire Department on Friday, October 21st. Our class will depart Tokeneke at 9:00 and return at approximately 10:40. We may be outside for part of the time, so please dress your child appropriately.

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

I hope everyone weathered the hurricane, and is ready to begin a wonderful year together!
